DES104M2-major project 2008

Many products rely on human physical interaction such as the user space we have in a car- from how the space can be changed to accommodate a 5th%ile female and a 95%ile male for driving, controlling the radio, seeing our the back window and so on. In some toys such as action figures or virtual products such as computer games, a cognitive journey takes place where we imagine we are that character. We can relate our knowledge of physical activity to the object we choose to control. We also understand how they move and can quantify the extent of the motion.

Project Brief: DES104M2: Intro to 3D Design 2008

Overview

This module introduces students to the world of 3d design. It explores general form based study and visual imaging effects on form. It identifies gender in form and how to apply it to set project briefs. It specifically identifies the specialsism of Product design or Character development and introduces the systematic design process associated.

There are several short projects and a major project, which must be completed, all with tight deadlines.

Product re-design

1. Product re-design

This project is a re-design project, which involves improving an existing design. Using the design process you will analyse one of the products below from a manufacture point of view, user point of view and an aesthetic point of view. You are required to select a suitable company as a brand name for the the product at the beginning of the project, if the product you choose has an ambiguous brand. Choose one of the following :

Automotive Rendering

Markers & Pastels:

This is a step by step guide to the rendering techniques used in automotive design.

3d Scanning

DV-Works D-Sculptor

Included are the patters for DV-W scanning system. You may need to resize these to be larger than that of your model to ensure all geometry is completely captured.

Round Pattern
