This module will be communicated predominantly via http://justinmagee.com . There are a number of important links you need to be aware of:
-
http://justinmagee.com/blog. This will include updates and information on forthcoming critiques. It will also host information on opportunities, events and possible employment advertisements.
-
http://www.justinmagee.com/des509-major-project-outline. This is the main content for the module. Included here is the module descriptor. Read this with care this includes the learning outcomes and assessment for the module. Note it is 40point which means 400 hours work. You will also find you time table and project suggestions, however you are expected to expand any project briefs or propose your own project.
-
http://www.justinmagee.com/des509-major-project-2010-2011 This is the project brief page. There will be more updates to this over the next few weeks.
-
http://www.justinmagee.com/des509-time-table-2011 The timetable page may update during the semester so do not relay on a print out from week one. Keep a regular eye to this and the other pages. This will also be important even if you are being supervised by another lecturer as there are times which we will all be together. It also has information regarding the Degree show, which we expect all students to aim towards exhibiting and celebrating their successful completion of the course.
It is the responsibility of the final year to have representation on the Degree Show committee. This includes class reps for both the BDes and the BSc programmes of study. All students will have jobs to do throughout the semester and during the final weeks prior to the show. A good rule of thumb is that if you don’t weight in at the beginning- you could find yourself doing all the fnal preparation work while others are completing their degree work. So good teamwork is the answer, and makes for a better show. The show is your interface to employment and we invite many people from industry.
IMPORTANT:
Module introduction is on week one at 9:15 sharp on Thursday 27th January in the design studios (MQ213/218). Immediately following this there will be a critique (Thursday 27th January 2011) which is mandatory for all students and to ensure continuation on this module.
