Dear Students,
there will be a project briefing for DES509- Major project on Thursday 15th December at 1:30 pm in the studios. You are ALL expected to be there. I will introduce the project and outline requirements for the first week of term at which point there will be a formal presentation pitch and 2 page project proposal. We start this project off now so that you start off running in semester 2.
In addition to this I was very disappointed today that only one Design student attended the ICE project introduction. There were around 10 CT students by contrast. The CEO of IBM Dublin also made a drop in visit and has pledged some of his senior staff to assist as mentors. Two representatives from the Office of Innovation and Mark Nagurski, Derry Digital Champion were there to launch the event along with our Head of School- Very embarrassing for us in design to have such a lack of engagement, especially consider since 2003 we have had over 50 successful awards or recognition nationally or internationally.
This is a golden opportunity for engaging in a similar major project, but with business support and financial opportunities towards starting your own company from the project. Although it may not suit you all you need to attend to make that decision. We have agreed to re-deliver this presentation following the induction to DES509. There will be a social event at 3pm and interested individuals will be asked to join Digital Derry in the Christmas celebrations later that evening.
I would fully expect that some of you would be taking up on this big opportunity...and going on to secure significant funding.
