Schedule for 3D design discipline

 

Studio / Workshop / Lab activities

Week 1

Introduction to module: Hand outs and project proposal forms discussed in seminar groups.

  • Complete Project Proposal Form to the attached format (the document must be typed), or to the format supplied by your supervisor.
  • Outline to include: Project name, a brief project description, research goals, aims and objectives, expected sources of research, planned dissemination of work, and a production schedule.
  • Present your Project Proposal at a 1-1 Tutorial with your supervisor in Week 2.

Week 2

Presentation: Design Context

Project Proposal forms submitted for review

Presentation using digital methods. Summarise:

  • Proposed 'working title' of project
  • specify area of research,
  • summarise state of the art (initial response)
  • personal design approach, include some initial blue sky brainstorming sketches

Feedback will be given in class, including some peer discussion

Week 3

Design Concept:

Studio work in class- Work on walls, productive Studio environment and One to One Tutorials for each project.

Week 4

Design Concept Critique: 15% of marks

Design development Critique: See List

  • Projects refined - Submissions include
  • Gantt Chart
  • Concept Critique: Visual presentation outlining project progress, problem identification, market rationale and development potential
  • Contextual notebooks or visual diaries
  • Timesheets and work reports
  • Design sketchbooks
  • Concept visuals -5 min

Each presentation will be for 10 mins followed by a 5-10 min discussion and Q & A from peers.

Week 5

Design development:

Week 6

Design development:

Studio work in class- Work on walls, productive Studio environment and One to One Tutorials for each project.

Week 7

Design development Critique: 15% of Marks

  • Resolution sketch work: Form and Function problem solving
  • Development of key conceptual ideas
  • Initial CAD: Ergonomics/ space envelopes/ level design (games) and technical data
  • Sketch models: Foam / Clay / CAD
Week 8

Design Review

Studio work in class- Work presented on walls demonstrating improvement from development critique, productive Studio environment and One to One Tutorials for each project.

Week 9

Design Rationalisation

Seminar and Tutorials as appropriate (workshop/ Labs and Studio)

Week 10

Design Implementation

Seminar and Tutorials as appropriate (workshop/ Labs and Studio)

Evaluation

Submission

All design work for this module, including research, concpt, development and implementation must be submitted.

DES509M2 Module report form

Submission begins on the week commencing the 19th May. The doors will be locked at 17:00 on Friday 15th May. ensure that your work is in well in advance. Aim for Thursday.

  • External Examiner visit: May 25th and 26th

The external examiner will want to meet briefly with all graduating third years on these dates.

  • Feedback: May 25th -29th

Please schedule an appointment with your supervisor.

  • Final Year Show Opening: Friday 29th May

NB.Re Critiques: If the work is not submitted for each of the deadlines, 0% will be recorded.

If work is submitted late on the day of submission, 20% penalty will be applied.
