DESIGN CONTEXT CRITIQUE:

Screen based presentations- using the Pecha Kucha style- project outlines and design approach including initial concept sketches (scanned).

To include:
  • Project Title
  • Information on the user or market
  • User requirement specification
  • State of the art / prior art
  • Initial ideas and proposals
Must include fully referenced research using the Harvard referencing system

Formative Feedback- be prepared to take notes after your presentation.

Concept generation and design development. Studio activity.

Task: Read lecture notes on Association Methods and Creative Confrontation Methods. Use methods to create Sketch books and the mood / theme boards- bring in work to studio.
Lecture- IPR and Patent searching
 
Week 5

Design Concept Critique (20% of module marks)

Using the style and rules of Pecha Kucha, identify the key ares of importance for your research and then showcase your own examples of work (sketches, renderings, computer work) and you main design observations.

  • Project Title
  • Detailed information on the user
  • User requirement specification update 
  • State of the art - IPR findings
  • Selected concept proposals

Small group Seminars: Design Development progress critique

You will each be expected to explain and demonstrate original design proposals developed to date, on screen or by print. The focus is on your generated content and not research or planning. Bring relevant work with you for discussion. It is expected that this will include 3D modelling developments of synthesised proposals.

At this stage significant decission are required for project development.

 
Development design sketch pads to accompany final proposal Story boarding and colour visuals, illustrating the proposed style and content of the project. Clear evidence of 3D modelling must be presented. The design should have been proposed as a clear plan with all main decisions having been made at this point. Check that you have the following work complete to date.
  • A design specification/ description of your proposed design direction
  • A conceptual sketch book showing your range of ideas.
  • A developmental sketchbook demonstrating problem solving for example space envelopes exploring scale, applied anthropometritechnical planning of character rigging, planning of compositing structures, 3D computer modelling topological planning or evaluation reviews etc.
  • 3D SMAX models working towards resolution of final idea

Final resolution of designs as prezzi or power point presentation

Presentation should include a plan of final deliverables, using sketch / mock up quality visuals

All work must be submitted by 10am, to me in MQ213 in a clearly marked Module Portfolio case

Portfolio to include:

Module Title: Innovation 3D

 

Ensure all Artwork, digital or print is professionally presented.
You must submit al work completed this semester as the external examiner will not have seen any of it yet.
Sketch books are to be neatly bound, including a cover page e.g. Concept ideas, another might be design development or technical feasibility.
Inclde any previously presented boards (A2 A3 etc)
Include any dgital content- clearly organised in folders and checked for PC compatability (e.g. Tutorial examples, interactive test layouts- animations)

Follow the specific deliverables in your project brief to ensure all artworks or digital submissions are met.

If work is submitted late on the day of submission, 20% penalty will be applied.
