The ST&D competition to design a Pulse Wave Velocity system, involving 19 Auburn University Inductrial Design year 2 students and 3 Magee College Design Students created quite a buzz in the design studios on the School of Creative Arts last week. ST&D Competition Results Photo This was the first time that the Auburn students had the experience of working on a live brief but they raised their game to push idea boundries and meet their dedline. Each of the 6 teams had the support of 3 designers from Magee College, Conann Fitzpatrick (BDes), Peter McGroarty (BDes) and Aiden Walsh (MDes). These guys had only hours to create 3D models for two teams each. However, as they are no strangers to live project work, their industrial experience served them well. Conann has around 10 years experience as an animator and modeller (including Dreamworks), Peter worked as a 3D Viz artist for Street Play Leisure on his DIS placement and Aiden has around 8 years experience as a design Engineer and currenlty works for Randox Technologies. The teams were also supported by visiting designer William Lee from the Design Factor, who provided key information and guidance as a project mentor bringing his experience as an existing design consultant for ST&D. The winning team was a result of Girl power, with the guys close behind. The 1st place team included Alyssa Struemph, Landra Meagher, Rochelle Childs, Kasey Whitaker who demonstrated high levels of innovation for wearable technology.
