2008 Kaufmann Award Success for design students

The Faculty of Arts yeat again this year have secured the national places for the Kaufmann Global Flying Start programme, only this time its a double. Lyndsey Bond (MDes) and Shauna Ward (BDes) swooped the only 2 Northern Ireland places to take part in a one year programme to develo their product ideas towards reality. Shauna's 'reading eye' product proposes to assist thoase with severe visual imparement to read via wireless audio devices and scanning sensors.

The first open information seminar on £25K Award 2008 will be held at UUC on Monday 10th March at 13:00 in H215 (beside the library).

Student Travel Fund - Northern Bank

The Northern Bank have just announced the Student Travel Fund. This will assist students who wish to study in another country. We have currently an erasmus programme with Augsburg, Germany as well as links with Auburn University. If you are interested, check out the Northern Bank flyer.


T.R.E.E. project students- all years

All students taking hte TREE project brief must register with the Science Shop. Please email Clare Mulrone and cc myself to do this. It is important you do this as soon as possible.



25K Awards: Total Recut- Total Success

Owen Gallagher, a student on the MDes Design Communication course has been the first arts student to be shortlisted for the 25K awards, with his highly innovative Total Recut project. This is a fantastic and highly significant achievement and we wish him well towards success. He will attend the Mastreclass/mentoring day on 22nd June at the Northern Ireland Science Park in preparation for the finals.

Best of Show- national competition

The Digital Hub is inviting Expressions of Interest for the exhibition ‘Best in Show’. This exhibition is a showcase of all the best work from the Graduate Exhibitions in Ireland including work from students from courses including Visual Communications, Design, Fine Art, Interactive Media, Virtual Realities, Film/TV, Digital Media Technologies, Animation, Model Making and Multimedia courses

ST&D Competition Results

The ST&D competition to design a Pulse Wave Velocity system, involving 19 Auburn University Inductrial Design year 2 students and 3 Magee College Design Students created quite a buzz in the design studios on the School of Creative Arts last week.

The Auburn Industrial Design Students are on their annual Ireland trip (which actually includes Scotland and France), but mostly our fine land.
